Challenge
The customer came to us with two aluminum boats that required powder coating. Masking was required on parts of the hull and interior. This boat was made to operate in a harsh marine environment, so the coating system needed to be robust enough to handle immersion and misting.
Solution
The team at Aegis met with the customer and identified key masking areas, along with hardpoints suitable for racking. The masking was mocked up on photos prior to starting the job, and a weekend was booked so that our team could focus on completing the project without distraction.
It was blasted with new media, and primed with epoxy. The top coat was rated Super Durable to ensure excellent gloss and color retention.
The unit was also profiled in our oven prior to final baking to ensure that there were no hot spots, and so we could validate that the coating was fully cured before removing it from the oven.
